Using Starvation As A Weapon Of War

Over the past few weeks, I've struggled to come up with a cartoon on the mass starvation in Gaza.

Then an article that I read briefly mentioned how in 70 AD, Roman general Titus laid siege to Jerusalem and slowly starved the city's population. This siege was in reaction to extremist groups like the Zealots who were violently opposing Roman oppression.

Over 2,000 years later, Benjamin Netanyahu and the IDF are laying siege to Gaza and slowly starving the Palestinian civilian population. This siege is in response to Hamas's rape and murder of Israeli civilians on October 7.

I'm horrified by the dehumanization of both the Israeli victims of October 7 and the Palestinian civilians who are being bombed and starved in Gaza.

On July 28, 2025, UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the use of starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza and Sudan (https://news.un.org/en/story/2025/07/1165506).
