Christian Nationalism

Christian Nationalism is a big problem in the United States. It fuels Donald Trump's political power. And it is a threat to the separation of Church and State.

Christian Nationalism seeks to impose a more extreme fundamentalist version upon the wider American society by monopolizing political power in the American government. Proponents of Christian Nationalism believe that the only true Americans are those who are the same type of Christian that they are. Those who do not hold the same beliefs, such as Jews, Muslims, LGBTQIA+ individuals, atheists, and those of more liberal Christian denominations, become second class citizens as the government favors a narrow version of Christianity.

Christian Nationalism often overlaps with and provides cover for white supremacy and racial subjugation ideologies.

Christian Nationalists are proponents of the Seven Mountains Mandate, a strategy that seeks Christian dominion in the “seven mountains” of society: religion, family, government, education, media, arts/entertainment, and business.

Christian Nationalism does not represent the whole of the Christian community. Several Christians who oppose Christian Nationalism have formed the group "Christians Against Christian Nationalism." They state in their website (https://www.christiansagainstchristiannationalism.org/learn-more):

"Christian nationalism is not the same as Christianity, and it can be defined and understood in a variety of ways. In this campaign, we define Christian nationalism as 'a political ideology that seeks to merge Christian and American identities, distorting both the Christian faith and America’s constitutional democracy'...

...At Christians Against Christian Nationalism, we believe Christians bear a special responsibility both to draw awareness to Christian nationalism’s gross distortion of the Christian faith and to work to explain its threat to democracy."
