Zero Days Since the Last Once-in-a-Lifetime X-Treme Weather Event
I don’t remember much from the news when I was a kid, but I do remember hearing a round the clock coverage about El Niño. Everyone talked about it—Al Roker on the Today Show, our local TV news, the front page of the newspaper in my small town, and even the far-right radio hosts my dad listened to on AM station KMJ580 and its host like Rush Limbaugh. While all being different in their approach to the news, they all said the same thing, El Niño was the most extreme weather event of our lifetime.
Now, 28 years later, it feels like we have "the weather event of our lifetime" every year, sometimes more than once a year. We’re seeing longer droughts, bigger and more dangerous hurricanes, deadlier blizzards, and things are only getting worse. That’s not even counting the shrinking water supplies, melting ice caps, and famines that are starting because of climate change caused by humans.
And yet, during this time when we need help the most, our government and major corporations only seem to care about making money. They focus on the next election or the profits for the next quarterly report, not on protecting people or the planet. They’re putting all of us, and even their own families, at risk just to make more money. One of the two major political parties in America won’t even admit that climate change is real. Worst yet, they’re making it worse by pretending it doesn’t exist. The terrible tragedy in Texas this weekend won’t be the last disaster. Sadly, some of the lives lost may have been saved if the Trump regime hadn’t cut funding to important agencies like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS). Those budget cuts meant people didn’t get enough or accurate warning to stay safe.
The mass loss of life was avoidable—and there will be more like it if we keep letting this regime ignore science and put money over people. And for those who are keeping track, yes, this is part of Project 2025. I won’t stop saying this: They don’t care about you, your family, or anyone who isn’t a billionaire.
