What I Love About the U.S. on its 250th Anniversary: Loving Americans Who Opposed American Imperialism
Our country will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding. With Donald Trump and the MAGA movement trying to hijack what it means to be a patriotic American, I thought of the very different reasons that I love the United States. I created this cartoon to highlight on of the things that I love about this country: the Americans who spoke out against American imperialism.
These Americans realized that imperialism went against America's best democratic values of freedom and equality and leads us to become oppressors. There were American critics of Manifest Destiny, the Mexican American War, the Spanish American War, the Philippine American War, and all of our various military incursions around the world.
