The Mother of the Disappeared - The Problem of Enforced Disappearances in the Philippines & Latin America

In Mexico, in Latin America and the Philippines, the parents, siblings and friends of victims of enforced disappearances have been taking the lead in challenging autocratic governments and paramilitary forces to find their missing loved ones and to advocate for other victims of unjust systems.

In the Philippines, mothers also have been strong advocates for human rights on behalf of their missing children. One of the most prominent is Edita Burgos, the mother of prominent activist Jonas Burgos. On April 28, 2007, Jonas was abducted in a mall in Quezon City.
