Jasper the Cat Against White Supremacy
One of the things that has worried me this past few years has been the resurgence of White Supremacist groups.
The ironic thing about White Supremacy is that it doesn't actually help poor and working class Whites.
White Supremacy only helps the White elite.
During the era of slavery and Jim Crow, for instance, the majority of poor and working class White communities remained impoverished and the profits from the White Supremacist system were funneled only to the White southern plantation owners and wealthy elites.
During the Reconstruction era, the wealthy elite White southerners riled up racism against Blacks to prevent poor Whites and poor Blacks from forming alliances to gain both economic and political power.
During the 20th century, both liberal Democrats and democratic socialists sought to create a coalition of the White working class, minorities and the poor for a common fight for economic and racial justice.
When leftists were successful in organizing this multiracial coalition of minorities and the working class, this created political support for Social Security, Civil Rights, Medicare, workplace safety rules, the minimum wage, Medicaid and other programs that helped all communities.
White Supremacy is also causing a great divide between White Evangelicals and Black Evangelicals.
In 2024, 85% of White Evangelicals voted for Donald Trump. Around 83% of Black Evangelicals voted for Kamala Harris.
