Fall in Line

Last weekend, I saw my dad proudly wearing a Donald Trump for President shirt and even posting a picture of it online. He usually only does that when he’s really excited about what’s going on in America. This time, what was happening was the U.S. attacked a country that hadn’t attacked us and wasn’t planning to. That really surprised me because my dad has told me many times that he was excited to vote for Trump because he thought Trump was the “peace” candidate. But now, he seems to support this attack like it’s a good thing. I also saw a lot of Trump supporters do the same—people who used to say they were against war suddenly cheering for it.

Then there’s Tulsi Gabbard. I remember she used to fiercely speak out against war, and the director of national intelligence even said Iran wasn’t building a nuclear weapon. But after the attack, Tulsi backed down and tried to say the news twisted her words. She even praised Trump’s actions. I never voted for her, but I liked how she talked about peace and wanted her to succeed. Now it feels like she’s just changing her views to get more power, even if they go against what she said before.

At least she gets something out of it— status. But what about regular people like my family and millions of others? Cripplingly high healthcare costs, broken roads and schools, and a lot of other problems.
