2025 - Exhibition about visual humor in court

Designed to Provoke: Visual Humor in Court, 1749-2025 is an exhibition that features a selection of legal cases from the eighteenth century to the present. It was created by the the Cartoons in Court project (NETIAS Constructive Advanced Thinking Grant, 2020-2025) and is co-sponsored by the Forum for Humor and the Law, DELIAH: Democratic Literacy and Humour, and Cartoon Movement.

The exhibition was featured at the 44th International Exhibition of Caricature, Press Cartoon and Humor in Saint-Just-le-Martel, France from September 27 to October 5, 2025. A catalogue with more detailed analyses of the different cases is scheduled to be published as a peer-reviewed open access volume by the Groningen University Press in spring 2026. We are currently talking to various other venues in Europe to host the exhibition. You can find more details about the exhibition here.
