The fact that Trump focuses on economic gains in every conflict he intervenes in naturally puts his role as a peacemaker into perspective. Trump establishes peace like a hard-nosed sheriff maintains peace between rival gangs of bandits, not so much by mediating as by threatening and bargaining. Sometimes such a sheriff is also corrupt and seeks to reap the necessary benefits for himself. What he calls peace is usually nothing more than temporary and deceptive tranquility.
