"Religion’s Tools"
"Religion’s Tools" explores how both faith and science can act as guiding belief systems—tools that shape human direction, behavior, and identity. The cartoon shows twelve figures, split into two groups, walking side by side toward an uncertain destination. Their backs are turned to the viewer, and in their hands, they hold a variety of religious symbols (cross, crescent, om, etc.) and scientific icons (atom, DNA strand)—suggesting that modern science has also become a kind of belief system for many.
Importantly, the spectator’s point of view is from behind, facing the same direction as the figures. This subtly implicates the viewer—we are not outside observers, but participants. Whether knowingly or not, we too are moving in ideological groups, following tools that were meant to guide, but may now define our very course. The cartoon invites reflection on how belief—religious or rational—shapes collective movement and identity in the modern world.
