The help that was on the way has arrived!

Before the war, Donald Trump repeatedly spoke as if a historic change in Iran was just around the corner. His messages were interpreted by many as encouragement to keep resisting and to believe that outside pressure would eventually weaken the Islamic Republic.

When the conflict finally came, some Iranians saw it as the moment when the regime’s grip on power might genuinely be threatened. Instead, after weeks of fighting, Washington and Tehran moved toward a ceasefire, leaving the same authorities in control and free to resume their repression at home.

For those who believed that “help is on the way” meant an end to executions, political persecution, and state violence, the ceasefire felt less like a rescue and more like another chapter in a familiar story: great powers making deals while ordinary Iranians are left to face the consequences.
