To Game A Nation
I wanted to satirize Mark Carney's carefully staged "everyman" image and the hollow theatricality behind his "Canada Strong" vision. The scene is crowded with symbols of elite power, colonial nostalgia, militarization, and corporate cannibalism: the serpent of "inclusive capitalism" winding through the house plant, imperial references and monarchist devotion, monopoly men and missile domes, broken treaties and union busting.
At the centre Canada itself becomes a rigged board game. Resource extraction, AI investment, austerity, and spectacle form the rules of play, while the dice show snake eyes. Beside Carney is the weary beaver tycoon, slurping swamp water beneath a stained top hat that exposes only a portion of the slogan to show "Nada Rong." The game lurches forward but the beneath the polished surface, everything is beginning to rot.
