Chinese President Xi Jinping showed no sign of changing his position over Russia’s war on Ukraine after talks with French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. Accompanied by European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen, Macron ended a visit that has officially been hailed as a diplomatic success, but in the absence of concrete results regarding the Ukraine war and their economic and geopolitical rifts, most observers remain skeptical about the future of Brussels’ engagement with Beijing.
