Celebrating the new birth
Celebration in honor of mothers, held in many countries around the world. Although the date varies by country, the holiday has in common the honoring of all mothers, expressed through gifts and events, primarily among family and friends.
The official commemoration of "Mother's Day" dates back to ancient Greece, when Rhea was the great mother of the Gods. Throughout history, manifestations of this celebration are found. In 17th-century England, "Mother's Day" was celebrated. On that day, maids would go home to visit their mothers and celebrate the reunion with a cake. A commemorative plaque commemorates this event. This date was declared official in 1910 by the governor of West Virginia, William Glascock. In May 1914, Anna succeeded in having this date included in the United States federal calendar. Soon, more than 40 countries adopted this commemoration.
