Internet shut down Kill switch turn ON Iran
As of January 2026, Iran is experiencing a nationwide internet blackout that began on January 8, 2026. This shutdown is the most severe "kill-switch" deployment in the country's history.
Rights groups, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, report that the blackout is being used to hide a lethal crackdown by security forces. Estimates suggest casualties may have already reached the thousands, but the shutdown makes independent verification nearly impossible.
