For its 2018-2019 campaign, Excision parlons-en ! is partnering The Cartoon Movement to create 10 cartoons aiming at raising awareness on Female Genital Mutilations (FGM) and the risks before summer holidays among secondary students in France.
Every year in the summer, thousands of girls and teenagers with an immigrant background go back to their parents’ country of origin for the holidays. There, they may undergo FGM, as planned by their parents or against their will because of community pressure. 3 out of 10 girls whose parents come from countries where FGM is traditionally carried out are still at risk today in France.
The cartoons we are looking for must be:
-Non-violent and not bloody (we are targeting a young audience that might be affected by the practice).
-Clear (the topic “FGM and summer holidays” must be immediately identified).
-Non-stigmatizing and non-discriminating.
-The cartoons must allow the audience to identify to the characters and their situations.
-It can be a single cartoon or multiple ones (e.g. a comic).
