An 18 year old citizen in Morocco has been condemned to a year in jail for posting a Damien Glez caricature of the king of Morocco, Mohamed VI, on Facebook. The answer to this lack of freedom: more caricatures to break down the taboo. The artistic community is invited to fight this cancellation of freedom of expression and of the people of that country, by creating their own "forbidden caricature."

To celebrate this Lunar New Year, the Tibet Autonomous Regional government has distributed more than 1 million flags and portraits throughout Tibet, to places including temples, schools and rural households. The portraits depict the four-generation central leadership, represented by Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao. Padma Choling, chairman of the regional government, said that hanging the portrait expressed the heartfelt gratitude of Tibetans for the People's Republic of China (PRC) central government and the Communist Party of China (CPC). The Dutch Press & Print Foundation has asked a number of prominent Dutch cartoonists to make a cartoon to support the Ali Ferzat, the Syrian cartoonist that was beaten up for his cartoons. Appropriately, the cartoons are shown as 'get well'-messages drawn on a cast. To see which artists participated, please visit our blog.

Another cartoon in support of Ali Ferzat, the well known Syrian oppositional cartoonist (almost 60 years old) , who has been attacked in Syria by anonymous people (very likely associated with the regime) who broke both his hands. This cartoon is in support of Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat, and a reminder to all cartoonists to keep fighting oppression. Ali Ferzat was brutally attacked by masked men, who broke his hands (to stop him drawing) and left him on the road outside Damascus.
