    Elections in Burma

    Burma (also called Myanmar) will vote on 8 November in its first open general election in 25 years. The vote is seen as a crucial test for the transition towards a full democracy; free and fair elections would indicate the reform process is genuine. A staggering 93 parties are taking part. The independent broadcaster ‘Democratic Voice of Burma’ (DVB) airs a weekly DVB Debate with four speakers, a critical audience and a cartoonist. in the run-up to these historical elections, Cartoon Movement will publish a weekly original work by DVB Debate's cartoonists, coordinated by lead cartoonist Soe Thaw Dar.

    In 2015, the United Nations and the International Court of Justice will both celebrate their 70th anniversary. Peace and justice are paramount if we are to create a world that is a better place to live for us all. After a highly successful project in 2014, The Hague project Peace and Justice – an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the city of The Hague - and Cartoon Movement are teaming up again to create a global debate about peace & justice that will involve editorial cartoonists and students from around the world.

    World Milk Day

    June 1 is World Milk Day. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) started this day to acknowledge the role of dairy products in our daily lives. Milk is a global food. The Milk Story is an independent Dutch platform that wants to discuss the role of the dairy sector with a broad audience and relevant stakeholders. With Cartoon Movement, The Milk Story explores different perspectives on milk, with editorial cartoons. Although this might not seem a subject that automatically suits editorial cartoons, the themes that relate to the production are important ones. Cartoons produced for this project focus on sustainable agriculture, and the need to feed a growing world population.

In this educational project about children's rights, Cartoon Movement provides the space for schools and cartoonists to work together.     CAPS2020 and the Cartoon Movement are joining forces to explore perspectives on CAPS (Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation) in view of CAPS2014, the first international event on CAPS (Brussels, July 1-2 2014). Between May 27 and June 24 we are inviting comic artists and cartoonists to reflect on CAPS as a whole, contribute to their definition and spread awareness around the topic.

    The ‪European Cultural Foundation‬ (ECF) and the Cartoon Movement are joining forces to explore perspectives on the upcoming European elections through comics and cartoons. ‏Between 31 March and 25 May 2014, we are inviting comic artists and cartoonists to reflect on European citizenship and the various issues that are currently facing Europe. We are not just interested in the EU, but we would like to hear perspectives from countries that are part of European citizens’ daily lives across the continent and beyond.
