May 5 – World Cartoonist Day

First adopted by the NCA (USA) in the 1990's to commemorate the first publication of The Yellow Kid in 1895, this date is now celebrated in many parts of the world.
Shouldn’t we turn it into an official international date on the calendar?

Yes, Tjeerd.
It may be difficult for this date to gain world prominence, especially since World Press Freedom Day falls so close—on May 3rd.
However, I believe the adoption of this day largely depends on us.
If Cartoon Movement promotes it annually, and Cartooning for Peace does the same on its platforms, the resulting flow of images could help consolidate the date Worldwide over time (even I don't like that the original date is about an internal US publication).

I wish this were a bigger thing. In the Netherlands, it probably will never get to be a big thing, because May 5 is Liberation Day (when the country was liberated from Nazi occupation in 1945).
