America’s Hegemonic Heel

The illegal war in Iran has shown the limits of U.S. power. The once thought indestructible and unstoppable U.S. military force has a) not led to stable political results, b) put pressure and strain on our alliances, c) been challenged by the Iranian government and military through their use of asymmetric warfare, and demonstrated America’s inability to bend the world to our liking the way we used to. Despite Iran having a military budget that is dwarfed by that of the U.S., its asymmetric tactics have made it harder for the U.S. to control the conflict and have pushed the world toward a more multipolar system. A great thing indeed, but it is exposing America’s Achilles’ heel, the end of American hegemony may come faster than we thought.
